In a dramatic shift from the most recent rumors the Russos are in talks to direct both Avengers 5 and Secret Wars. The information comes from THR who say sources have informed them the director siblings are in talks to helm both of the next Avengers films. The Russos, as I’m sure you know, directed both of the last two Avengers movies in Infinity War and Endgame.
‘The Russo Bros. are in early talks to return to Marvel Studios to direct not just one, but the next two Avengers movies, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.’
‘The hiring ends a months-long, high-stakes search by the studio for filmmakers to oversee the fifth and sixth Avengers movies. Multiple names were in contention, including Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, who was offered the gig. Sources say the talks are in the early stages.’

Previously Leaker Jeff Sneider had reported that the Russos wanted the gig but Marvel had rejected them this time around. I guess things changed. On his recent The Hot Mic show Sneider claims that THR released this story knowing he was breaking the same story in the show because the title of their show had already been listed. Sneider thinks Disney gave THR the scoop ahead of SDCC where they initially planned to reveal the news.
That’s the game folks, as Sneider well knows. There was one additional detail Sneider added on this week’s show. He says he’s been told to expect at least one of Markus and McFeeley to return to writing duties. Recently we heard Michael Waldron was no longer writing Avengers 5, but still attached to Secret Wars. It’s possible if the Russos are on board they want to have M&M, or one of them to take a pass. I expect we’ll get more solid details come SDCC next weekend.
So, what do you think as the Russos are in talks to direct both Avengers 5 and Secret Wars? A few of our readers were annoyed at the rumors we shared about Marvel rejecting the pair. Therefore, I imagine those same Marvel fans will pleased with this news.
