When Henry Cavill was first cast as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix Adaptation of The Witcher novels, I was very skeptical. For me, Cavill was too big, too young and too clean cut and good looking. However, the odd fan-made pieces of art and the realization that this was not an adaptation of the games but the source novels themselves made me decide to wait and see.

Well, today Netflix has released a small glimpse of Henry Cavill in a make-up test for the role of Geralt, check it out below.

Now I don’t know your thoughts, but for me, if this is a test, Cavill and Netflix have failed that test, because this just doesn’t look good to me at all. Guess what my concerns are? That he looks too young, too clean and tidy and too big, which as you’ll recall above, was exactly my initial concerns. Now even Geralt was younger once, but the books don’t really begin with Geralt as a very young man, by the time he meets Yennefer, Geralt has been a Witcher for some time. Here I have to say Cavill looks more like Legolas from The Lord of the Rings.
What I will say, is that if the story works well and Cavill delivers, then I won’t care ‘too’ much about the look. However, if anyone from Netflix is reading, there are some simple ways to rectify this. Get Cavill to slim down, try to make him clean shaved less often and give him a few scars and scuffles visibly showing.
There is still time to get a better look here before filming begins, I hope they use this time well and take on feedback from fans.
What do you think of Cavill’s make -up test, am I mental and he looks great or do you side more with my views here? Let us know what you think in the usual place below.
