Young Millennials have a hard time navigating through life and romance in the age of social media and swipe right dating apps. A film like The Worst Person In The World puts romance back in perspective about a young woman navigating her life through a romantic partner and her life.
The Norwegian film is the darling of director and writer Joachim Trier, who successfully helmed previous films about love and relationships. His previous two films, as part of the Oslo Trilogy, were 2006’s Reprise and 2011’s Oslo, August 31st.
Here’s the official synopsis:
The Worst Person in The World is a modern dramedy about the quest for love and meaning in contemporary Oslo. It chronicles four years in the life of Julie, a young woman who navigates the troubled waters of her love life and struggles to find her career path, leading her to take a realistic look at who she really is.
The film stars Renate Reinsve (Welcome to Norway, Oslo, August 31st), Anders Danielsen Lie (22 July, Oslo, August 31st), Herbert Nordrum (Pronopung, Fjols til Fjells), Hans Olav Brenner (Oslo, August 31st, Okkupert), Helene Bjorebye (Stolthet og forfall, 22. Juli), and Vidar Sandem (Orion’s Belt, Mammon). Joachim Trier directed the movie from the script he wrote with Eskil Vogt.

The film generated quite a buzz with the world premiere for the Palm d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The distribution rights were sold to NEON with MUBI obtaining the rights in India, UK, and Ireland. Also, Renate Reinsve won the award for best actress at that festival. It made its North American premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival and is to be screened at more than a half dozen film festivals before its release in theaters.
No release date is set for this film at this time.
