The next Thor film is kind of an important one. While it can be seen as just another chapter following everyone’s favorite god, Thor: Love and Thunder also marks the first standalone franchise to reach four movies, with all the others stopping at three. Unlike any other potential franchise continuations (like any future Captain America movie, which will likely feature Sam Wilson in the role), it will also feature the same lead.
Of course, you can thank Thor: Ragnarok helmer Taika Waititi for the renewed fan enthusiasm…but how soon can we actually see him take on this movie? After all, he’s easily become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand directors.

“I haven’t seen the script yet,” Chris Hemsworth said at San Diego Comic-Con (via ComicBook.com). “I know they’re working very hard on it and pretty excited to bring you something pretty fresh and new again. But having left Endgame, where Thor was, we have a lot of room to move there and drastically change again, which is very, very exciting. But we start shooting that sort of mid-next year.”
While this may seem a bit ambitious, when you consider the release date is November 5, 2021, it’s not too crazy. Also, from the sound of it, at least a draft of the screenplay has been completed, as Taika Waititi revealed to Yahoo! this past October.
Waititi may be juggling a whole host of other projects, but it does seem as though he doesn’t have a problem actually executing, which is a great thing. Are you excited to see Thor hit the big screen again in 2021? Let us know your thoughts down below!
