Tiffany Haddish In Talks To Star In New Jump Street Reboot

The men have already had their way with the 21 Jump Street franchise in the two films that hit earlier this decade, but Sony isn’t done with it yet. Not by a long shot. Probably. There have been talks of a female-driven reboot of the franchise for a while, with the project resurfacing just a couple of months back.

Now, Collider is reporting that Girls Trip and Night School star Tiffany Haddish is in talks to star in the film. If you’ll recall, the whole premise of the films revolve around cops going undercover in high school, and with that in mind, one could ask if she looks too much NOT like a high school student to take on the role (though in all fairness, Channing Tatum looked 162 in both films, so it really wouldn’t matter, right?). Well, it turns out she may actually be playing a cop pretending to be the mother of a student — who is also an undercover cop.

Of course, any good lead needs a good co-lead. There are sources indicating that Crazy Rich Asians and Oceans Eight actress Awkwafina is at the top of the studio’s list to play the undercover student and Haddish’s “daughter.”

This all may sound stupid, but I honestly don’t hate it. Both Haddish and Awkwafina have proven to be hilarious talents, and with 22 Jump Street writer/Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse co-director Rodney Rothman behind the camera — along with producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller, it’s hard not to be at least a little optimistic.

But what do you think? Does this project interest you at all? Let us know your thoughts down below!
