The 1991 Beauty and the Beast was one of my favorite movies growing up and when I heard about the remake, I was ok with it. Although, when I saw it, I was disappointed. Too many things happened that took me out of the movie like Belle’s reaction to Gaston’s proposal. It was more like an over-reaction and Gaston had a point. Women didn’t have the same rights and privileges we do today. No means no, but the anger was over the top. The scene worked for the first movie and Belle had a great reaction to the proposal she received. Gaston let his awfulness be known. Also, the prince’s roar at the end was stupid. There was news about Beauty and the Beast getting a prequel last year, but I figured it got tossed aside. Maybe more like hoping. I didn’t think it was a good idea.

I Think My Concerns Are Valid

Gaston and LeFou were the better parts of the 2017 Beauty and the Beast in my opinion. Their scenes together felt like an improvement from the 1991 Beauty and the Beast, especially LeFou. Luke Evans and Josh Gad did an amazing job creating Gaston and LeFou’s relationship. They were so funny and the characters worked so well in the movie. However, I just don’t think there’s a series here, but I do love to be proven wrong. Eight episodes is a lot of time to fill so I hope they will come up with something good.

Even though the 2017 Beauty and the Beast was a success for the critics and the audience, I can’t help but see so many moments that didn’t work for me. I really like Gaston and LeFou and I don’t want this to fail. I guess I’ll just have to wait for more news and hope everything goes well. Also, I have been curious to find out what the hell LeFou sees in Gaston. I’m glad he moved on. Perhaps the series will be better than the 2017 Beauty and the Beast. I hope so. I’m tired of the Disney remakes missing the mark, although, I did enjoy the Cinderella remake.
