Possible SPOILERS ahead for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. You’ve been warned!
Who is Snoke, really? Are Rey’s parents who Kylo Ren said they are? Why does Kylo Ren wear such high waisted pants in his big shirtless scene?
These three questions, more than any others, are at the center of the great Star Wars: The Last Jedi debate… especially the one about those damn pants! I mean, what is the deal with those pants, man?!?
The Last Jedi costume designer Michael Kaplan explained to CinemaBlend that the choice was made, simply because style is a little different a long time ago, in a galaxy, far, far away:
“The world of Star Wars is not our world. Kylo Ren is not some hipster in hip-hugging jeans. Think Errol Flynn swashbuckling coolness as a point of departure. Hide that navel!”

That’s all well and good, but I actually had my own, far cooler and more practical theory that is now no longer theory, but fiction. Still, hear me out…
The Last Jedi takes place mere hours, or possibly days, after The Force Awakens. Though we see Ren’s scar given to him by Rey in the film, Chewbacca’s bowcaster shot to his side is never addressed, nor does it need to be. My theory though, was that the pants are both hiding the injury, and are so tight they are keeping his insides… inside. Or, at the very least keeping them in place. Similar to how Kylo Ren was punching this same wound as he fought Rey and Finn in Force Awakens.
Like my theory? Prefer the official explanation? Does any of this matter? Let us know in the comment section below!
