Will RDJ’s Doctor Doom be in The Fantastic Four: First Steps? Director Matt Shakman refuses to answer the question in an interview he took at SDCC. The biggest news of this weekends SDCC was of course some Marvel news which regular readers of LRM already knew from rumors we shared last week. Namely that the Russos were now directing both Avengers 5 and Secret Wars. However, there was also the rumor that RDJ may be in talks to play Doctor Doom. Now of course, we know this was true. RDJ will return to the MCU as Victor Von Doom (confirmed). Additionally we know that Avengers 5 is now called Avengers: Doomsday.
We know Doom will certainly appear in Doomsday and likely Secret Wars as the main antagonist. However, will he (character) make his MCU debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps? Given that Doom is traditionally a FF villain, it would make sense. Rumor wise what we had heard is that Doom would certainly debut in the film, but only a very small role. However, that was a while ago.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps (dislike the title) director Matt Shakman had already confirmed at SDCC that he knew RDJ was playing Doom and had to keep it secret. However, in the interview below Shakman was also asked about whether the character would show up in his movie?
His response was a simple, “I cannot say, anything!”
Now, you know fans, some of them see this is non-denial and have declared RDJ will now appear in FF as Doom. I get the feeling this is probably true, but we cannot confirm this is the case based on Shakman’s words.

It makes sense to tease Doom before we get to Doomsday. The FF: FS…. (see it’s a rough title) is literally the perfect place to do that. The only other movie’s between FF and Doomsday are a possible Blade film. Given that Doom looks like Tony Stark, one would guess he comes from the same Universe as the Fantastic Four and not the 616 Sacred Timeline. However, there’s a lot of guesswork going on here, so bear that in mind.
Whether it makes sense or not, we will need to wait and see. If Doom has as small a part in the film as the early rumors suggested, then we may not know for sure till it releases in a years time?
