Earlier today we were treated to a brand new trailer and poster for Disney’s Aladdin. This trailer helped to calm a lot of people’s fears about the direction the film was going to take as it showcased so many moments that we all remember from the 1992 classic animated film. One of the characters that we got a better look at was Will Smith’s Genie. His moments included the time he was initially summoned, explaining how his wishes worked, a quick clip of their version of the classic song Friend Like Me and we even saw Genie helping Aladdin make his move on Jasmine.

Some of these moments were originally brought to life by the voice of Robin Williams. This is something that Smith is very well aware of. So today after the release of the trailer and new poster, Smith posted on his Instagram that Williams had left some “big shoes to fill” even though Genies have no feet. The shared these comments along with an image created by Luigi Lucarelli that features his Genie in animated form alongside William’s classic Genie. Check it out below!

As we all know Smith’s Genie has been a target of controversy for Aladdin. First it was the fact that Smith was cast in the iconic role. Then later that was followed up with the question of whether or not his human form was the only form that we were going to see in the film. Then following that when his true blue form was revealed, the internet once again had a negative reaction to the blue that was used. At this point it seems like there is not going to be anything Smith can do to please some people, but either way Smith seems very excited about his role.
Aladdin stars Mena Massoud in the lead role as Aladdin along with Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Smith as the Genie, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as The Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, Numan Acar as Hakim and Alan Tudyk as the voice of Iago.
