When DMG took over Valiant Entertainment a few weeks ago and practically forced out then CEO Dinesh Shamdasani, a lot of long time fans were left worried with the direction the company would take. Especially with their announcement that going forward they were going to concentrate more on developing the characters on film rather than comics.

This week via Comic Book Resources Valiant Entertainment has announced changes to its big event for 2018 Harbinger Wars 2. Originally event was to be a four part mini series that showcased the creative team of Matt Kindt and Tomás Fiorello and the Secret Weapons creative team of Eric Heisserer, Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín. Each of the books were to be 48 pages long with a price point of $3.99.

It was a bold idea to have two teams tell the story from both sides of the war. But unfortunately that will no longer be the case. Bleeding Cool has reported that Heisserer has left Valiant and that in fact, he has not written for them since DMG took over and that we shouldn’t expect him to write any further for the publisher.

Heisserer’s completed script will now become a prelude to Harbinger Wars 2 and the rest of the event will be written entirely by Kindt, including a new epilogue, making the entire event six 32 page issues long. Here is the press release from Valiant Entertainment:

Kindt is an amazing writer who I have faith will do a fantastic job with this event. It just worries me that DMG is slowly starting to make subtle changes that are going to affect the great quality comics that Valiant Entertainment usually puts out. This is already evident in this event with the departure of Heisserer, we will look back at this thinking about how much better it could have been. Also we know that Heisserer had been working on some of the films for Valiant Entertainment, does this mean he left those projects as well? Unsettling days for Valiant indeed.
