Zack Snyder’s Justice League Could Be Four Hours Long And Cost $30 Million To Make

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is coming — here are the juicy details!

The year 2020 has had a lot of firsts fall under it. I’m happy that this latest bit of news falls under the “good news” category. After years of thumping the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hashtag, it has been officially announced that Zack Snyder’s Justice League will hit HBO Max in 2021. That’s right. This is official. It’s the real deal, and it could never have happened without the fans.

The Impossible Is Now Possible

“I always thought it was a thing that in 20 years, maybe somebody would do a documentary and I could lend them the footage, little snippets of a cut no one has ever seen,” Snyder told THR in a recent interview. In all honesty, you could have fooled me on that one. Given how much he supported this movement and how much info he was sharing with fans, I would have thought he was super gung-ho about this from the get-go. But it’s not something that would have been possible in theaters.

“With the new platform and streaming services, you can have something like this,” producer Deborah Snyder told the outlet. “You can’t release something like this theatrically, but you could with a streaming service. It’s an opportunity that wasn’t there two years ago, to be honest.”

“Like this”? What does she mean by that. Well, as it turns out, this is gonna be a long flick. North of four hours, if that cut Snyder has is any indication. In fact, from the sound of it, HBO Max is letting Snyder have his way completely with this flick.

Totally Different From Justice League

“It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie. You probably saw one-fourth of what I did,” Snyder said. That being said, he also admitted that he never saw the theatrical cut of the movie.

But with it being four hours in length, and it being released on a streaming service, there may be one big change. While we don’t know for sure if this’ll happen, there is a bit of scuttlebutt that it will take the form of a six-episode series. In all honesty, that’s not a bad way to go.

The Budget Of Zack Snyder’s Justice League

The next big question I had is the cost. Yes, they may have shot the movie, and yes, they may have a cut of it…but how much will it cost to make? After all, they’ll have to actually finish the effects on the film. While we don’t know for sure, one source says it will take $20 million to finish the movie and another says $30 million.

That is definitely a steep price…but it also isn’t. Yes, Warner Bros. lost tens of millions of dollars on Justice League, but there’s another way to look at this. HBO Max is effectively a whole ‘nother entity. As it stands, you can look at this as a streaming service spending $30 million for a $200 million feature-quality production. Almost any way you slice it, that seems like a great idea.
