Following up on reports last week that Bruce Campbell had confirmed there’d be a sequel to “Army of Darkness” which, itself, was the second sequel to original “Evil Dead”- it has now been confirmed that Sam Raimi will direct the picture himself. Raimi and Campbell helped produce last year’s remake, and it was unclear if that meant that the franchise was starting from scratch with them in behind-the-scenes roles or if they’d somehow find a way to continue the original storyline while building on the new one. The remake’s director, Fede Alvarez, has now taken to Twitter to announce that the man that started it at all will be back for the continuing saga of Ash:
“@thielebenjamin: Hey @fedalvar will you be directing the Army Of Darkness 2 movie?†Sam Raimi will!

If you’ve been following this unique franchise, you’ll know that Alvarez and Raimi have a plan to have both the original and the remake’s continuities cross paths in a seventh film. This would mean that alongside an “Army” sequel, there’d also be another standalone follow-up to the remake.
With “Evil Dead”s rabid following, this plan of theirs might just be crazy enough to work. With Raimi and Campbell now officially onboard, it’s safe to say that these next few years are going to be very exciting for the fan base.
