The Stand 2Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) has exited the film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand, according to The Wrap. Two sources close to the production have let slip that it was over “creative differences.” Cooper had been brought in to direct and re-write the script a few months ago, but it looks like things simply didn’t pan out. He had gotten the job after Ben Affleck stepped away from it to direct and star in Live By The Night.

As of now, no replacement for Cooper has been announced. We can expect movement on this right away, though, as the post-apocalyptic horror film is a priority over at Warner Bros. There’s been no official casting news, either.

Cooper’s next film, Out of The Furnace starring Christian Bale, is coming out on December 6 and the director has several other projects in the works.

Have you read the book? Do you think it’ll make a good movie? Who would you tap to direct? If he weren’t knee-deep in Hobbit post-production, I would totally want to see Peter Jackson take the helm of this.
