Actor Confirms Classic DC Character Is Sitting Out JUSTICE LEAGUE, Talks BvS Criticism, Blurts Out Spoiler?

When it comes to Justice League, which will be the largest entry in the DC Extended Universe yet (and that’s saying a lot, when you think of how huge the scope of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was), you’d be fine assuming that every major character we’ve met so far is going to appear in the big event.

Apparently, that’s not such a safe bet to make after all.

Laurence Fishburne, out making the rounds to promote John Wick: Chapter 2, answered frankly about whether or not the Daily Planet’s iconic editor-in-chief, Perry White, was going to show up in Justice League. Fishburne has played the character in two DCEU films so far, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, but he confirms that he will not be seen in DC’s big team-up.Though, that’s not for a lack of trying:

“They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise. And really, what do you need the newspaperman in Justice League for? You want to see The Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern.

“We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever.”

It’s interesting to see Fishburne bring up Marvel, likely adding fuel to the old fanboy flames of a “Marvel vs DC” feud. Having a DCEU actor say that “Marvel has been kicking their ass” is likely to get lots of tongues wagging.

And also, did he just spoil that Green Lantern is appearing in Justice League? While just about anybody would’ve assumed there’d be a cameo of sorts, to help set up the Green Lantern Corps movie, there hasn’t been much in the way of an official confirmation. Fishburne nonchalantly saying that fans would rather see “Lantern” than Perry White in Justice League may confirm what used to only be a rumor/theory. It’s notable because if a Green Lantern is going to appear, then it pulls the rug out from under all of the casting reports lately. It would mean that- regardless of whether it’s John Stewart or Hal Jordan- he’s already been cast.

Fishburne didn’t stop there, though.

He was also asked about the negative response Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice received, with critics dismantling it and fans giving it a so-so B CinemaScore. Fishburne sounds hurt by the response:

“Look, I love what Zack Snyder does. Jesse Eisenberg, this little nebbishy guy, as Lex Luthor? For me, that’s a genius move. And the whole thing with Martha Kent and Martha Wayne? I don’t know, man, I must be sentimental but that’s some heartwarming [stuff] to me. So I don’t get it.”

You can see Fisburne in theaters everywhere in John Wick: Chapter 2, but you won’t be seeing him in Justice League.

What are your thoughts on Fishburne’s remarks?

And while Perry won’t be in Justice League, there’s still this intriguing rumor floating around:
