Studios are a funny bunch when it comes to titles. We’ve now reached a point where titles of movies serve as newsworthy occasions. We see that in such big film franchises as Star Wars, and oftentimes with comic book fare as well.

It looks like 20th Century Fox is taking this same approach with Deadpool 2, which we assumed would be titled as such. However, our eyebrows were first raised this morning when in the press release sent to us by Fox, they called the movie the UNTITLED DEADPOOL SEQUEL.

The title of the film was also suspiciously absent from the odd trailer we got this morning, and the biggest indication we got was the title of the fake Bob Ross-esque program that was called “Getin’ Wet on Wet With Deadpool 2.” Admittedly, it was a bit odd that they numbered Deadpool here, and now seeing that we may be getting a different title, it’s even more odd.

Screen Rant noticed the “untitled” part of the title as well and went so far as to reach out to Fox for clarification. Their response was simple: “This film is not yet titled so we are temporarily referring to it as Untitled Deadpool Sequel.”

So what do you think this Deadpool sequel will be called? In the vein of the character, we wouldn’t be surprised if it was something fourth wall-breaking, but given the film is still over six months away, it’ll likely be at least a few more months until we get a confirmed title.

Deadpool 2 hits theaters on June 1, 2018.

I actually hope they just call it Untitled Deadpool Sequel

Exactly what I was thinking, it would be perfect.

This Fourth Wall stuff is growing old. I like Deadpool, but he’s beating a dead horse by breaking the 4th wall so much. Maybe it was refreshing in the first movie (I disagree), I feel it won’t have the same response in the sequel.

All depends on how they do it. It COULD easily lose its appeal, be too much too often, but you do it right – like an uncredited cameo of Hugh Jackman AS Hugh Jackman, attending “Deadpool” or watching it in his house as Deadpool runs through it for some reason – and the absolute stunned silence of how to react… that could be golden. Little opportunities of 4th wall breaks always make for better than over the top. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off took full advantage but made it work by not belaboring it ALL THE WAY through the movie. Started out with a lot, then faded back into little snippets. Given they directly referenced the movie at the end of the first something tells me someone (probably R.R.) is a fan and gets it too. Possibly necessary to establish certain plot/characte factors for people who aren’t big Deadpool fans – but given they did that in the first one and at the same time the movie blew the character and all things about him up, it could actually be funnier to play on that. Blow the 4th wall thing off by having in jokes and such that only fans will actually get.
