John Boyega Shows Off Finn’s New Blaster From Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Finn was the only major character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens who didn’t get the chance to carry a distinctive weapon of his own. Meanwhile, Kylo Ren showcased his striking new lightsaber in the film, Rey inherited the lightsaber used by both Anakin and Luke Skywalker, Han Solo carried his classic DL-44 heavy blaster pistol, and Chewbacca continued to rock the bowcaster. Finn was stuck with whatever weapon was standard issue for Stormtroopers in that time period, and later, a borrowed EL-16 blaster from Han Solo.

Now, Finn strikes back with his own unique blaster, one he will surely use once he’s finally fresh out of the bacta tank in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. John Boyega, who plays Finn, took to his Instagram account to share a video of the keepsake he received from the set of The Last Jedi.

Proud owner of Finn’s blaster ! Thanks to @riancjohnson !

Though not as distinctive as Han Solo’s classic blaster — the standard for cool sci-fi guns — Finn’s new weapon is impressive none-the-less. It may light up, but it’s more than the typical toy you’d find at Target. That flashing blue light is built into the prop for more realistic lighting on set. Sure, they have to add the laser blast and “phew phew” in post-production, but with this there’s less work to be done, and the actual light reflecting off Finn’s hand, and surrounding sets will give it a more realistic look. Hopefully, Finn has received further lessons on how to shoot after leaving the First Order. Their Stormtroopers still can’t hit the broad side of a barn!
