Much has been said about Logan, and how it will likely mark actor Hugh Jackman’s final film as the clawed mutant. This is a man who’s portrayed one of the most iconic superheroes of all time, and after over half a dozen films with him at the forefront, we all knew this would be an especially emotional moment for all of us.
Coupled with that, however, is the assumption that this may also be actor Patrick Stewart’s last go as Professor X himself, Charles Xavier. Stewart is, after all, getting up there in years, and with the X-Men franchise seemingly shifting things to the past timeline, it seemed unclear that his services would actually be needed in the future.
But of course, silly us for making assumptions like that. X-Men is a franchise that’s hopped all over multiple timelines, and as such, there’s no telling who we could run into in any of the future flicks. But if you thought that he was done for sure, I wouldn’t count on it. Speaking with ET Online, Stewart acknowledged Jackman’s intent to depart the franchise, but made no promises that he would be leaving anytime soon.
“Hugh has raised the flag that says goodbye. I haven’t done that yet.”
I’m sure I speak for a lot of fans when I say that we’re happy to hear that. So if you were one of those fans ready to bawl their eyes out from the departure of not just one, but two legends in the comic book movie genre, then rest your weary little head. Stewart will likely be back for another round — if they can work him into the plot, that is.
What do you think of Stewart’s statement? Would you want to see him participate in another film, or do you think the baton has officially been passed on to the younger generation of X-Men? Let us know your thoughts down below!
