The folks over a Warner Bros. have just released a brand new trailer for their upcoming ode to pop culture, Ready Player One.

This is our first look at the film since the San Diego Comic-Con First Look, which hit this past July. However, unlike that trailer, this one actually gives us more of an idea of what to expect from the film, character and story-wise.

From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure Ready Player One, based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon.

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Spielberg directed the film from a screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline. The film was produced by Donald De Line, Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Dan Farah; with Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Chris DeFaria and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers.

That looks a lot more fun than the previous trailer that they released.

Totally agree. This trailer actually makes me want to watch the movie, which is the point right! but that last trailer…….

      • Jason Tyler

the first trailer was just as amazing? Wtf?

  • Victor Roa

this scene from Fifth Elements just sums up my reaction
There’s something really weird how the Kaneda bike has an extra axis to make it thiner and really odd model from any self respecting fan who buys a toy that is referenced off the original art.
It’s a very weird trailer, like maybe 20 years ago it’d be cool but like now Spielberg wants to out sleaze Michael Bay with VR sex from lawnmower man…… I really wish a movie about jokes about the gamer culture was done by Lord and Miller instead… indecently, turns out Lord and Miller have a a guy from Iron Giant and Ratatouille on Spider-Verse…… Irony is a bitch.

What I always find interesting about futuristic movies is how they always overlook the culture gap. In the 2040s everyone will still be referencing the 1980s and 1990s, when it really should be chocked fully of references we don’t get.

There’s a reason for that in the context of this story, for what it’s worth.

This could be the world’s best video game movie ever made…

    (Yes….it’s actually a book adaptation, I know)
