According to TheWrap, The CW, along with Carina Adly MacKenzie, who is known for her work on the vampire show The Originals, is developing a reboot of the sci-fi series, Roswell.

The show will stray slightly from the original series in that, along with aliens, the show will have a focus on immigration, as the title character is the daughter of undocumented immigrants and upon returning to her home town of Roswell learns that her crush is not only a police officer, but an alien. She keeps his identity a secret, but the situation is sure to cause strain on their relationship.

The original Roswell ran from 1999-2002, way back when the CW was the WB network, and had some soon to be stars in its cast including Katherine Heigl, Colin Hanks, and Emilie de Ravin (LOST). Both the original and the coming reboot are based off Melinda Metz’s book series, Roswell High.

I’ve been wondering how long it would take this to happen—but a police officer? No, we don’t need another sci-fi/supernatural police procedural.

They should’ve taken a lesson from Spider-Man: Homecoming and went with a younger group of actors, ones just entering high school, not older ones. The original Roswell was at its best in the beginning, when there was at least a semblance of correlation between extraterrestrial alieness and high school alienation.
