If you’re a bit of an animation junkie like me, chances are you’re more than aware the interesting 1989 film Little Nemo: Adventures In Slumberland. It was based on the comic strip. Christopher Columbus had a hand in the screenplay for the film, and after a lengthy development process (which involved Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata), it finally hit. As a kid, the film was a joy, and was an interesting mix between Eastern and Western minds.

It looks like the animation gods are in my favor, as the source material will be revisited for a new Little Nemo in Slumberland animated film. According to a new report from Variety, On Animation studios, who brought us the charming The Little Prince movie (which you can check out on Netflix), will be teaming with Moana’s head of animation, Hyrum Osmond to bring the fantasy to life.

On Animation Studios founder Aton Soumache described Little Nemo in Slumberland as follows:

“The strip is truly an unlimited source for astonishing adventures. McCay created a world made for CGI a century before the technology existed. It’s a passion project at the heart of On Animation’s philosophy: a beloved property leading to a story of emotional truth, set against a never-before-seen world.”

Osmond had the following to say about the upcoming project:

“Little Nemo in Slumberland is a masterpiece that has influenced generations all over the world, breaking new ground in visual storytelling. I look forward to joining the amazing team at On Animation to bring this beloved work to life.”
