Ever since Cameron Monaghan’s Jerome Valeska appeared on Fox’s Batman prequel series Gotham, fans have seemed to accept that he was the Joker. After some twists, turns, and a twin brother for the character through the series, fans thought they finally had their Gotham Joker when Jerome Valeska’s brother, Jeremiah was doused with insanity gas a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, as it stands now, there will never be a proper Joker on the show. In a tweet Monaghan said both the Joker’s green hair and even the name Joker are off limits to the Fox series. You can see the post below.

In an interview with IGN, Gotham producer John Stevens reiterated that the Valeska brothers are not and never will be the Joker.

“The other characters are who they are. Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, etcetera. But no, he isn’t the Joker. What we’ve always gone with is that Joker is somewhere out there, anonymous and unformed, in Gotham, and he’s watching the actions of Jeremiah and Jerome and possibly even another one, on his way somewhere down the line, and he’s adopting them as inspirations as the person he’ll one day become.”

Apparently, WB has a policy about multiple versions of characters appearing on different mediums simultaneously. Seeing how Gotham is set long before any big-screen version, I don’t see why WB wouldn’t allow the series to fully use the character. The name Joker is probably more synonymous with Batman than Gotham City, you can’t have one without the other.

Do you think WB should let Gotham have full use of the Joker? Let us know in the comments down below!
