The last few days we have gotten a good amount of information about James Wan’s upcoming film Aquaman starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen and Nicole Kidman. The film is set to hit theaters this December and according to recent reports the Aquaman trailer will debut next month at San Diego Comic Con.

Heard is set to reprise her role as Mera, who briefly debuted in Justice League last year. But it looks like she may not been open to the role at first. In an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly Heard said that she was, “allergic to being the damsel, the two-dimensional archetype of what women are often limited to in this industry, especially in the superhero world.”

But that is when Zack Snyder stepped up and convinced her to take the role. In an interview with comicbook.com Heard said that, “Zack got me at ‘warrior queen.’ He said, ‘You get a sword and a crown,’ and I’m like, ‘Okay.’”

I am sure that his words were a bit more descriptive with that. Mera is the daughter of the king of Xebel with the power to use hydrokinesis, which means that she has the ability to control water. Mera is definitely not your typical princess/queen. In a lot of recent stories going back to the New 52 of DC Comics we have seen how important she is to Arthur as a supporting character.

Talking about Heard’s take on Mera Wan said that, “I think Amber will bring that sense of strength, but at the same time, we also want someone who has a sort of feminine quality to her as well. She’s a bit of a contrast to Momoa, who’s more of a muscular machine almost.”

Mera should have a large role in Arthur’s character development to King. It will be great to see how Heard portrays her in the film. What are your thoughts on Mera? Let us know in the comment section below!
