As confirmed last night by DC boss James Gunn, Jason Momoa has finally been cast as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The news all began when Momoa himself updated a post he made years ago on Instagram. Here is that text.
“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” said the actor. Momoa went on to say that should DC come around asking him to play Lobo, it would be “a f*ck yeah.” Alongside the Instagram screenshot, Momoa posted a caption yesterday that reads, “They called.”
As covered by Deadline,
‘Jason Momoa, star of Warner Bros and DC‘s Aquaman films, has been tapped to play Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Deadline has confirmed.’
‘Momoa has been linked to the Lobo role since before James Gunn came in to lead DC alongside Peter Safran. He’s been vocal in the past about his interest in the part and today confirmed his attachment to the role in a post on Instagram, where he screenshotted comments from a past interview.’
This casting also pretty much tells us one thing we all guessed. That if Aquaman ever comes back to the DCU, he won’t be played by Momoa. Something everyone predicted the day after Momoa first met with new DCU bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. Clearly they told him Aquaman was out, but Lobo was in at that point, as he came out very happy.

Meanwhile James Gunn confirmed the casting via several social media platforms. However, here is some Lobo artwork he chose to post over on X.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will star Milly Alcock in the tile role. Filming is expected to get underway soon for a release date of June 26, 2026. Far as I have been told by fans of the comic the film is being adapted from, most of the action takes place off-Earth. Therefore, Lobo turning up makes a lot of sense.
What do you think as James Gunn confirms Jason Momoa is cast as Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow? Thoughts below as always. Oh, and Happy New Year to all our readers when it comes where you live. See you in 2025.
