If you’ve made it this far in the Disney-Fox journey, congratulations, it’s almost at an end. Almost.

After months and months of false starts, discussion collapses, bids, counter-bids, counter-counter-bids, acquisition, regulatory stuff, and general paperwork tomfoolery, it looks like we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for the whole Disney-Fox acquisition — or at least most of 21st Century Fox, once it spins off a couple of its other entities into their own companies.

According to 21st Century Fox president Peter Rice during a town-hall meeting on the Fox lot, they will be ready to close the deal with Disney on January 1, 2019. This is roughly a year since the deal was announced to be happening last December.

This deal was almost thwarted when Comcast made its own bid, but it was ultimately beat out by the House of Mouse. One other question that came about during the town-hall meeting was whether or not there’d be a culture clash with Disney coming in. Obviously, there’s no real way for Rice to see the future, but he pointed to other films like Marvel, Disney, and Lucasfilm, all of which were acquired by Disney and were allowed to continue on largely intact.

Of course, anything can happen, so I’ll believe this deal when it’s final, but if all goes through, we’re looking at a few short months left until Disney becomes the new boss.
