Yeah, I know. Movie theaters have been trying to find ways to charge premium ticket prices for years. Given how much 3D was rammed down our throats around the era of Avatar and since then, you’d be forgiven if you were fed up with them trying to squeeze even more money out of you. That being said, there are some experiences out there that I’m very much in favor of. That experience is the IMAX one.
This is coming from someone who hates 3D to the very core. In spite of this, I still remember the immersive experience IMAX gave me for movies like Spider-Man and Return of the King many years ago. But those were films that weren’t even shot on IMAX-specific cameras. Imagine how much better the experiences could have been if the film itself took advantage of the more vertical nature of the IMAX screen.

Last year, I had a chance to see Avengers: Infinity War — the first major Hollywood movie to be fully shot for IMAX in its entirety, and the difference was unparalleled. I’m excited that directors Anthony and Joe Russo have made the extra effort to do the same with Avengers: Endgame.
“It made sense to us that the grandest cinematic event in Marvel history should be executed in full IMAX,” Joe Russo says in the above featurette.
“The level of ambition in these films is pretty high and we needed equipment that could help us fulfill that ambition,” Anthony Russo added.
