Well, that didn’t take very long, now did it? It hasn’t been long since it was revealed that Sony was going all Marvel Studios on us. Rather than license out their properties for other studios to adapt into films or TV shows, they will be taking the burden on themselves with PlayStation Productions. While sister company Sony Pictures will be helping out with distribution, they will now be handling all aspects of production of the movies going forward.
In yesterday’s episode LRMornings (you can listen to it below), Kyle and I discussed this very piece of news, and I wondered if Twisted Metal was something that Sony actually owned. If so, it seemed like only a matter of time before we’d be getting an adaptation of sorts for that, considering just how big it was way back in the late-90s — or at least as big as it was to a prepubescent kid like myself back then.

Well, if you can believe a post from a random member of Reset Era, during a Sony investor’s meeting, it was stated by Tony Vinciquerra of Sony that they had recently begun production of a Twisted Metal TV series. Yeah, that’s right. Production. Not development. Production. yeah, I think that’s an instance of the dude not understand the lingo here in the biz, especially since IGN got a direct quote from Vinciquerra, saying:
“We have a TV show we just agreed to get underway that will be developed from the IP on PlayStation, it’s called Twisted Metal. It’s a game that was put out many years ago and we’re going to develop a TV series around that.”
So there you have it. Twisted Metal confirmed to be in development for the small screen! Do you think this is a good idea? Let us know your thoughts down below!
