We know that DC is very sensitive about it’s properties and their likeness. A few years ago they refused to let a family put a Superman logo on the headstone of a young child. Just recently they hit a cease and desist letter to a comic book shop that had depicted U.S. Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as Wonder Woman. So how would DC handle a film like Sony’s Brightburn?

The film can be considered an “anti-Superman” film that depicts the terrifying event that could have transpired if a Superman like being showed up to Earth but used his powers for evil and not good. Of course the film makers are not saying this in anyway is Superman, but after watching a few trailers you cannot help but to notice the similarities between this character and a young Clark Kent.

James Gunn is a producer on Brightburn and as we know he is currently the writer and director on Warner Bros. Sequel/Reboot of The Suicide Squad. During an interview with CinePOP, Gunn assured everyone that this film did not cause any problems between Sony and DC. “There’s a lot of similar stories that have been in comic books over the years from all sorts of different comic book publishers. So, yeah… and I have a pretty good relationship with DC”, said Gunn.

Yes DC must have a very good relationship with Gunn for them to have reportedly have offered him a Superman film before The Suicide Squad. So if there was any issues with Brightburn, they would have definitely come up. Gunn was also recently reinstated as the director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after he was fired last summer. He will start working on that once he completes The Suicide Squad film.

Brightburn is being directed by David Yarovesky based on a script by Brian and Mark Gunn. It stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Jackson A. Dunn, Matt Jones and Meredith Hagner.
