Filmmakers and creative-types have a tendency to cling on to certain ideas. As films and stories are created, some jokes and moments tend to get pushed out, but that’s not to say you can’t revisit them at some point. Kevin Smith is well known for reusing a lot of his material, be it from his Evening With Kevin Smith specials to Clerks II or his podcast to something like Tusk, and it’s a tradition that continues on in the upcoming Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
On a recent episode of Hollywood Babble-On, Kevin Smith revealed that the opening moments of his latest film were once a part of the unproduced Clerks III.

The moment in question is where Jay and Bob are held up by a SWAT team. When ordered to drop the plants in his hands, Jay mishears and drops his pants, only to reveal his…private parts have been tucked in, Clerks II (or Silence of the Lambs) style.
It’s the very moment that apparently once served as the opening to Clerks III, a film that was, according to Smith himself, very dark. Smith previously said at San Diego Comic-Con that that version of the film will never be produced, and that he intends to write a whole new take to wrap up Dante and Randal’s story. But if you wanted to see just a piece of what could have been, it looks like we’ll be able to do so in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
