Michael Nardelli’s Harrison Ford Humor In DARK/WEB

Michael Nardelli plays the role of James in the Amazon Prime Video series DARK/WEB which you can check out here! When we first meet him, James is a teacher in Wisconsin trying to deal with an unruly class and what initially looks to be a possible alcohol issue when we then find out that his mother is terminally ill and other members of his family are lacking support leaving him the primary care giver. Even with dealing with his family and career issues, James still stands out as a character still holding on to his humor providing fun and subtle comic relief throughout the series. I was able to catch up with the man behind James and get his inspiration for the character as well as some DARK/WEB follow-up. You can check out his responses below!

1. Now that SDCC has come and gone, what was your impression of premiering DARK/WEB at SDCC?

Premiering at San Diego Comic Con was one of the best experiences. Getting to talk to people first hand as they were watching the show live was amazing. Some people came back on night two of our premiere and had already binged the whole show. It was just great that we got to debut at Comic Con because our show is – we think, in a good way – so weird and out there and dark and crazy and we just felt like everyone that showed up got it right away and saw what we were trying to do. It was great to be surrounded by genre fans who were excited to give something new a chance.

2. James is extremely funny and provides some subtle comic relief throughout the series. Is this your natural demeanor or did you take inspiration from any individuals?

It can definitely be my natural demeanor to be a bit goofy, or silly, or childish in between moments of being overly serious. James is pretty close to who I am in real life, which I actually liked about him because every other role I’ve done has been pretty distant to who I am in real life. I thought with James, people could finally see me a little bit. In terms of inspiration, I always look to Harrison Ford. In terms of actors, he’s one of my idols, and I love how he maneuvers through high drama and very dry humor.

3. What would you like to see in a possible DARK/WEB sequel?

Eventually we need to get right to the aftermath of the decision the gang made at the end of season one. It has possibly huge implications for the main characters and for the world at large. Figuring out what the world looks like with MIHR on the loose will be a lot of fun. But I do think to move forward, there is first a story to be told going backward. Showing the birth of MIHR, how computers and technology first started invading our homes in the early 90s, and how the tech revolution could have been prevented – and if we would have been better off that way.

4. What current projects are you working on?

I just finished a play in LA and I’m writing a feature that is a science-fiction exploration on mental illness.

I am always curious when I see actors and actresses on screen how similar, or different, they are than the roles they portray. I had the opportunity to meet Michael Nardelli, and he definitely does have the humor he brings to the role of James.
