After seven seasons of FX’s Sons of Anarchy I always felt a little annoyed that the Mayans M.C. were usually portrayed as the “bad guys” per say in the series. Which is why I was very excited when the spin-off show Mayans M.C. was created and showcased the Latinos that make up the club. Tomorrow will be the the season finale of the second season of the series on FX and ahead of that we have some good news if you are a fan of the series.
According to Deadline, FX has picked up a third season of Mayans M.C. and it has confirmed that co-creator and executive producer Elgin James will serve as showrunner for the upcoming season. This comes after the exit of the series co-creator Kurt Sutter last month, who had been looking to hand over the reins to James from the beginning, because he didn’t want a white guy at the helm of a Latino motorcycle club.
“We’re happy to continue telling the story of Mayans M.C. with our partners at Fox 21 and excited that Elgin James has earned the opportunity to become the series’ showrunner,” said Nick Grad, President, Original Programming, FX Entertainment. “Kurt Sutter identified and chose Elgin as his partner on the show from the outset and Elgin has been instrumental to the success of the series, leveraging his experience and creative vision to make Mayans M.C. with this incredible cast, crew and creative team.”
The first season of Mayans M.C. finished as 2018’s most watched new cable series for adults 18-49. During it’s second season its currently ranked #6 in adults 18-49 among cable scripted series, with an average of 4.6 million viewers per episode across all linear and non-linear platforms.
It’s been a great second season that has seen the club having to work with the cartel in Mexico in order to combat a US government that is trying to shut them all down. Meanwhile the pasts of some of our favorite characters is coming back to haunt them. I am very excited to see what transpires tomorrow in the season finale.
