It’s kind of insane to me that we’re nearing the end of the current generation of consoles. Usually at this time in the generation, I start to grow weary of the limitations of the current consoles and am eagerly looking forward to the next big shiny object. However, with games like Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and The Last of Us Part II, I find myself still impressed with the quality of the console tech. Such is also the case with the upcoming open world third-person adventure game, Ghost of Tsushima.
This has been on our radars ever since it was officially announced in October of 2017, but a more recent trailer late last year really helped drive enthusiasm for its June 2020 release. Now, Sony has dropped an all-new trailer that digs into the story of the game.
But perhaps most notably, this thing really drives home its graphical prowess.

I’m admittedly not someone who really puts emphasis on graphical prowess. Give me a hyper-stylized game like Persona 5 over a hyper-realistic one any day. And yet, it’s hard to deny the impressive look of this game. Even more impressive is the near-seamless transition from cutscenes to gameplay. If you’ve ever wanted to run around in feudal Japan, you’ll not likely find a better candidate.
In this game, you’ll play as Jin Sakai, a samurai who is one of the last lines of defense against the Mongol invaders. As is evident in the story trailer, he has quite the chip on his shoulder for his enemies, and it’s led him down a dark and destructive path.
Given that this comes from the same studio that produced the Infamous series, that’s pretty insane.
“In Infamous you explore powers,” creative director Nate Fox said back in 2018. “In this game, we let you explore what it is to be a samurai inside of this enormous landscape of medieval Japan.”
