Deadpool 3: They’re Still Figuring Out How To Move Forward At Marvel Studios, Says Ryan Reynolds

casting news around Blade and Deadpool 3. Deadpool 3 see's the return of fan favorites and Blade casts what's rumored to be a big role.

Poor Deadpool. After spending years wallowing in development hell over at 20th Century Fox, he finally got a movie. That movie did very well and spawned a second movie, which also did well. The world seemed to be paving its way forward for a continued franchise. There was even an X-Force movie from Drew Goddard supposedly on the way. Yes, this was the same Drew Goddard who was attached to a Sinister Six movie before it imploded. Once 20th Century Fox was enveloped by Disney, the future of Deadpool was put into question.

Would Deadpool actually have a place within the family-friendly atmosphere of Disney? We still don’t really know. What we do know is that Ryan Reynolds has been in touch with Marvel Studios and that they’ve been trying to figure out that very question. So, how have things been on the progress front?

While promoting his latest movie, Free Guy, Reynolds opened up about the future of Deadpool.

“Oh, man, I really don’t know,” he told Total Film. “It’s just all so new with it being over at Marvel now, and, you know, figuring out the ins and outs as much as I can, from where I sit. We’ll see.”

Not exactly the most comforting thing, but given the landscape of the world, it really is the best we can ask for. The future of theaters is a big question mark and the MCU is a mammoth beast to be controlled at all times. Whether or not they can move forward with a Deadpool 3 may not be high on Marvel Studios’ priority list.

Given the R-rated nature of the Deadpool franchise, one can’t help but wonder if Reynolds feels like an outsider. Regarding that, Reynolds doesn’t think so.

“I don’t feel like an insider at all,” Reynolds said. “I think once I’m more intimate with it – if we get to make a Deadpool 3… if or when we get to make a Deadpool 3, I’ll probably have a better perspective on that. But I’m a huge fan of Marvel, and how they make movies. So when Disney bought Fox, I only saw that as a good thing. Deadpool hopefully being allowed to play in that sandbox, I think is just a win for everyone involved. But we’ll certainly see.”

If there’s anything we know about Hollywood, it’s that nothing’s set in stone. Movies are some fo the riskiest investments out there. Add in all the other factors that have popped up recently, and you have a stew of uncertainty. Still, we can celebrate the two movies we did get from the Merc with the Mouth. They can never take those away from us.

What do you think of Reynolds’ comments? Do you think we’ll get an MCU-set Deadpool film, or will it be its own thing under the 20th Century banner? Let us know your thoughts down below!
