Ratt Infests The Billboard Charts Again Thanks To New Geico Commercial

Iconic 80’s metal band RATT is out of the cellar and back on the Billboard charts thanks to their appearance in a new Geico commercial. The ad promotes a home and car insurance bundle and features a couple talking about how great their new home is, but there’s one issue, a RATT problem. The amusing 40-second spot features the band performing their 1984 hit song “Round and Round” in all areas of the house.

As of now the commercial has infested televisions and computer screens of homes across the nation and reached almost 9 million views on Geico’s official YouTube channel. It comes at a perfect time since everyone has been quarantined inside and many people have been glued to the television as news of current events unfolds. Thanks to this exposure, the hit single from their debut studio album 36 years ago landed at #18 on the Billboard Rock Digital Song Sales Chart earlier this month and most recently jumped to #10, demonstrating that 2020 really is the Year of the Rat.

RATT and front man Stephen Pearcy are no stranger to the spotlight. The band’s 1984 album “Out of the Cellar” on Atlantic Records earned triple platinum status thanks to songs like “Round and Round”, “Back for More” and “Wanted Man”.

If you’re a young buck who didn’t have the privilege to witness the RATT invasion in the 1980’s heavy metal heyday you may still recognize this tune from being featured in television shows like Family Guy, CW’s Supernatural, Netflix’ Stranger Things and movies like The Wrestler and Super Troopers 2. You might have even seen the band’s brief cameo in the 1986 movie The Golden Child.

I reached out to Stephen Pearcy and he said, “RATT has never done commercials” so this was a first for them. “This commercial was great for us because it exposed us to a new fan base and reminded our old fans that we’re still rockin’! Like the song says, “what comes around goes around.””

As a lifelong RATT fan this ad made me want to switch to Geico! Major props to Justin Harris, creative director at The Martin Agency, for laying it down and bringing humor to the masses at a time when everyone could use a good laugh.

Be sure to scurry to the nearest venue and catch RATT on their upcoming tour. A handful of dates had to postpone due to the global pandemic but there are still many shows on sale for The Big Rock Summer tour featuring RATT headlining with support from glam metal legends Tom Keifer’s Cinderella, Skid Row and Slaughter.   Visit RATT’s official website www.TheRATTPack.com for upcoming shows and news.
