Batman was a distraction?

Things continue to heat up surrounding Ray Fisher’s accusations against Warner Bros. In fact, earlier today, I reported on recent comments from Jason Momoa. According to the Aquaman actor, Warner Bros. released fake news surrounding him playing Frosty the Snowman in order to distract from the allegations. That would be pretty insidious in and of itself, but if we’re to believe Ray Fisher, it doesn’t stop there.

The actor recently took to social media to point to another big announcement as a major distraction. The announcement in question was none other than Ben Affleck returning as Batman in the standalone Flash film. Here’s what Fisher had to say.

“Unfortunately, the fake Frosty news with Jason wasn’t the only PR tactic used to distract from the seriousness of the JL situation.

Ben returning as Batman was clearly meant to be revealed at DC Fandome. 

I’ll give you one guess as to why @wbpictures likely jumped the gun.”

Fisher goes on to point at the dates on both posts. Both landed on August 20, 2020, with the Affleck reveal coming mere hours after Fisher announced an official investigation was launched. I have to say, as much as I want to believe Fisher, I believe his claims are suspect.

Yes, those announcements were on the same day, but the Batman reveal wasn’t exactly a post that could have been thrown up last-minute. It was an extensive Vanity Fair piece that went in deeper than your average standard scoop reveal. This makes it clear that the post was already long in the works before it was released.

However, it is also possible that it was set to launch on Saturday morning, and was pushed up to Thursday, as Fisher claimed. On our end, we do know that this unexpected reveal did affect Disney’s release of The Mandalorian trailer. As such, its affect on Fisher’s tweet didn’t even dawn on us.

While Warner Bros.’ bogus Frosty the Snowman post does indicate a desire and willingness to distract from Fisher’s allegations, I’m still not entirely sure the Affleck reveal quite fits the bill.
