With the horror genre so vast, one figures that side of the industry running out of story ideas.
In His House, it tells a terrifying tale from a different cultural perspective from Sudanese immigrants.
The film stars Wunmi Mosaku (Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Lovecraft Country), Sope Dirisu (The Huntsman: Winter’s War), and Matt Smith (The Crown, Dr. Who). Remi Weekes (Fright Bites) directed the movie from the screenplay written by Felicity Evans, Toby Venables, and Weekes.
Here’s the brief synopsis of His House:
After making a harrowing escape from war-torn South Sudan, a young refugee couple struggles to adjust to their new life in a small English town that has an unspeakable evil lurking beneath the surface.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta chatted with director Remi Weekes on this unique horror film. We talked about the apartment used for the production set and the dream sequence. Also, we talked about the legend of the apeth, a vengeful Sudanese spirit.
Remi Weekes is a British filmmaker. He started his career with a couple of short films called Exhale in 2009 and Metamorphosis: Titan 2012 in 2012. In 2016, he directed a Halloween short called Tickle Monster about an unusual bogeyman as part of the UK’s Channel4 Television series of Fright Bites.
Overall, the film is a refreshing approach to telling horror stories. Immigrants are haunted as they venture outside their comfort zones of their home country. However, their past always haunts them as they relocate to a new home. Not to mention, local residents have their prejudice against other cultures—multiplying the horrors for immigrants from the lack of understanding.
His House streams on Netflix beginning on October 30.
