Disney+ Star will launch in the U.K. on February 23rd. The new Star services will appear in a new password protected tab on the Disney+ home page. Star will allow access to adult content on Disney+ for the first time. However, subscription prices are increasing as a result.
Formerly Disney+ was £5.99 per month or £59.99 per year. The new pricing as listed below is £7.99 and £79.99 respectively. Though, I did just get an e mail from Disney+ offering me another year at the original £54.99, and it mentioned the new content coming. I assume this is a loyalty promotion given my first year is running out and I’ve subscribed since day one?

We also have an idea of some of the content we can see in the U.K. at launch. Both 24 and Die Hard are advertised as being included. However I would guess that eventually all the Disney R-rated and Fox content will make it to Star. I’m sure there are loads of shows and movies currently still tied to existing licensing deals that cannot appear at launch. Check out the official social media post below.

Overall, I’m getting on that cheap deal for another year ASAP. I’m sure it may take longer before we see the likes of the Buffy, Alien, Deadpool, and Logan to appear. However, that’s exactly the step that Disney+ needs to take to rival Netflix. After paying all those Billions for Disney+ is going to rival Netflix for content as the years go on I’m sure.
What do you think of Disney+ Star launch details for the U.K.? Is the extra cost going to be worth it for Disney+ going forward? As always, leave any thoughts you have below.
