This potential Disney 18+ buzz has also translated to Disney’s stock climbing with the market opening this morning. The company’s stock opened today at $151.49 which is almost identical to where it was at one year ago after the launch of Disney+.  On August 26, 2019 its stocked peaked at 151.64 just after Disney+ premiered in the US and just before Rise Of Skywalker premiered in theaters.

Since then the stock had tumbled for various reason most notably when all parks and studios had to shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  Hitting it lowest point on March 23, 2020 at $85.76 when the whole world basically went on lockdown.  Since then the companies stock had been climbing with the reopening of multiple parks, the release of Mulan on Disney+, the announcement of more original content coming to the streaming service and the premiere of season 2 of The Mandalorian.

In the span of one month though the company’s stock has jumped from $118.47 at the end of October to $151.49. Which leads the market to believe that something big is coming.

Amazon Studios’ former head of strategy, Matthew Ball, commented on what the supposed ‘leak’ video could mean for the streaming service and outlook in general.

“Been asked about this “leaked” Disney+ trailer for Disney’s Dec. 10 Investor Day,” he wrote. “It feels real to me, though I get skepticism. If true, it would be a HUGE value unlock for Disney. Which is why it feels so real to me. Fixes ARPU, engagement, theatrical + COVID, TAM, Fox.”

While Ball mentions that the trailer “might be a great fake” or “just for abroad (where no Hulu). But it makes so much sense (more revenue, more subscribers, more engagement, simpler offering) for Disney and viewers.”
