Check out the first House of the Dragon teaser trailer below. The Game of Thrones spin-off set over 200 years before the events of the show is coming to HBO Max in 2022. So far we have no indication of exactly when to expect this show in 2022, yet. This is the first official footage we have seen from House of the Dragon, and we do see glimpses of some of the major characters. Check it out.

The Targaryen dynasty’s rule is complete in this age. However conflict within the Targaryen’s themselves threatens to create the infamous Dance of the Dragons when the Targaryen civil war ravaged the lands. The stars of the show shown here include Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, with his niece and rumored lover Rhaenyra played by Emma D’Arcy. We also see Daemon’s older brother, Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, along with Rhaenyra’s actual husband Corlys Valryon, played by Steve Toussaint along with many others.

In true Game of Thrones fashion, the plot of this story revolves around that blasted Iron Throne. Rhaenyra is the King’s eldest child, but he also has a son by a different mother, Alicent Hightower played by Olivia Cooke. Her father Otto Hightower played by Rhys Ifans was once Hand to both Viserys and his grandfather Jaehearys, and they want her son Aegon to inherit the Iron Throne.
Of course what remains to be seen with House of the Dragon is whether the fan base will return? It would be an understatement to say Game of Thrones had a lackluster ending. The final two seasons were overly rushed, and the show lost a lot of popularity as a result once it ended. Especially amongst book fans, who still have not seen a new book in now over 10 years. With so many HBO projects on the go, and creator Martin involved in all of them, fans fear he will never finish the story. Ultimately right now HBO are chasing the success Game of Thrones had. However, I’m not sure the fan base will all return with open arms, at least not right away.
I think I loved Game of Thrones despite its rushed ending overall. Though, I did find on a re-watch I stopped at the end of Season 6. I’ll be checking out House of the Dragon for sure, as at least this story does actually already have an ending.
What do you think of the first House of the Dragon teaser trailer? Are you checking out this Game of Thrones spin-off next year, or giving it a miss? Thoughts below.
