Nintendo Acquires Animation Studio To Be Named Nintendo Pictures

Nintendo

Halo, Uncharted, Resident Evil, Sonic, and so many more video game properties have made their way into film and television. As time goes by some of the companies that own these franchises have stepped up and got bigger roles in the tv and film business. Now Nintendo is making that leap. To prove they are serious, they have bought their own animation studio, which they have renamed, Nintendo Pictures.

Nintendo announced the deal yesterday, July 14th. They have acquired 100% of Dynamo Pictures. The acquisition will officially close this coming October and no snags are expected along the way. The official name of the amination studio will be changed to “Nintendo Pictures Co., Ltd”. This was one of the conditions of the acquisition.

Via TheHashtagShow, we can tell you that Dynamo Pictures was a CG production company that has had its hands on various video games and anime. These include titles like Death Stranding, Persona 5, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and many others.

It will be fun to speculate what kind of projects they have in mind going forward. We know for now that for sure there is a Super Mario film with Chris Pratt that is scheduled for next spring. That film is being made at Illumination, which has made successful franchises like Despicable Me/Minions, and The Secret Life of Pets. I expect them to continue to work together as Universal Parks have been adding Nintendo Lands for fans to get immersed into the video game world that we all grew up with. What could happen is that Nintendo’s new animation studio will focus more on streaming and or television series.

Regardless of what happens, this is good news for fans of Nintendo. It certainly means that we are going to get more media from some of our favorite Nintendo franchises. How about a Super Smash Bros. anime? Anyone?
