Now this is interesting as Marvel’s Blade movie nabs True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto as the writer. The news comes from THR over the weekend who report that the long gestating Blade movie has now found a new scribe. It would also be true to say, one hell of an upgrade in Pizzolatto. As per the trade.
The creator of acclaimed crime anthology, True Detective, is working on Blade, Marvel Studios’ vampire thriller starring Mahershala Ali.
The development marks a True Detective reunion as Ali starred in season three of Pizzolatto’s HBO show.
Blade is batting its wings towards a late May start of production in Atlanta with Yann Demange, who helmed the pilot of HBO’s boundary-pushing horror series Lovecraft Country, in the director’s chair.

Previously we knew the original script for Blade was rejected, if not by Marvel, by star Ali. It seemed as though production was being set up, but we were not sure who was taking the script forward. Now we do know, and as said above, Pizzolatto is a bold choice and he won’t be cheap. Having worked with Ali before and been responsible for some award winning TV, Pizzolatto has writing chops.
Let’s hope the trio of Pizzolatto, Demange and Ali can really make this a great movie. The Blade movie should theoretically be the jump off point for a more Supernatural side of the MCU. Though Werewolf by Night already gave us our first glimpse into that world. Hopefully Blade will have a great tone to set for what comes next. One would assume that since Ali has worked with Pizzolatto before, he may have had a say in who was hired. Both actor and writer won awards last time they worked together.
