The Venezuelan actor, Edgar Ramírez shows us once more his ability to play a real life Italian personality for the second season of Dr. Death. The popular series now brings the story of the celebrity thoracic surgeon, Paolo Macchiarini that made international headlines for his “miracles” and later for his crimes.  

The Synopsis 

Season 2 of Dr. Death, based on the hit Wondery podcast, follows “Miracle Man” Paolo Macchiarini (Edgar Ramírez, “Gold”), a charming surgeon renowned for his innovative operations. When investigative journalist Benita Alexander approaches him for a story, the line between personal and professional begins to blur, changing her life forever. As she learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world make shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about Paolo into question.

Edgar Ramirez found success in 2003 with the telenovela Cosita Rica from Venezuela’s largest television network, Venevision. His debut in Hollywood was with Domino, playing Choco, Domino Harvey’s love interest played by Kaira Knightley. In 2018 he played Gianni Versace for the television series American Crime Story. Some of his known and recent projects include  Carlos, Deliver Us From Evil, Point Break, Gold, The Undoing, Netflix’s Yes Day and Disney’s Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. This year Ramirez has remained active on the small screen for television series like Netflix’s Florida Man and Peacock’s second season of Wolf Like Me. Next year he will be seen as part of Eli Roth’s film, Borderlands.

I had a brief moment with Edgar Ramírez during the press day for Dr. Death via Zoom. Ramírez discussed what intrigued him to play Macchiarini and how he knew to manipulate those around him. Ramírez shared how till today he doesn’t understand why he built the web of lies the way he did and more!
