According to the latest news Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner is set to play Lara Croft in Amazon’s Tomb Raider series. The new reboot show, led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been casting for its lead. Turner was said to be one of the front runners. Now Deadline are reporting that Turner has won the part and is in negotiations.
Waller-Bridge is a good writer, so I am am interested to see what she will do with this series. As for Turner, there’s another franchise to get her teeth into. Turner came to fame playing Sansa Stark, whom we saw grow into a woman through the run of Game of Thrones. X-Men was next up for Turner as she won the role of Jean Grey in Fox’s latest reboot. To be fair, that one probably came at the wrong time for Turner. It was just after this Fox got sold to Disney.
Here’s what the trade had to say;
‘Sophie Turner is in negotiations to star as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, Prime Video’s high-profile series adaptation of the video game franchise from Emmy-winning Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, sources tell Deadline. A rep for Amazon MGM Studios declined comment.’
‘As we reported exclusively last month, the Game of Thrones alumna was among the actresses who tested for the high-profile role, previously played on the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.’

We don’t know exactly when filming will take place, or when we may see Season 1. Though for the former I’d guess perhaps earlier in 2025 given that’s them just negotiating the lead role.
