Netflix Boss Says Shawn Levy Will Be Making Star Wars Movies For A While To Come

Netflix boss Ted Sarandos says Shawn Levy, who recently signed an overall deal with Disney, will be making Star Wars films for a while yet.

Netflix boss Ted Sarandos says Shawn Levy, who recently signed an overall deal with Disney, will be making Star Wars films for a while yet. Levy is of course the director of the next Star Wars film released, Starfighter. However, in a recent interview with THR Sarandos says he expects Levy to be making Star Wars films for a while to come.

Levy was under an overall deal with Netflix and left for Disney. Though, as Sarandos says, he was getting the opportunity to make big movies with Disney so he seems understanding of the switch.

“Shawn also was kind of doing the same thing. And the problem when you have an overall deal with someone who has commitments in other places, you’re in constant conflict for their time. And Shawn is going to be making Star Wars movies for a while. So the fact that his deal is with Disney makes a lot of sense. I’m thrilled for Shawn. We’re going to do a ton of things together.”

‘Sarandos added Netflix still has shows in development with Levy, including an upcoming hockey drama titled Sticks. “We have a lot of that stuff’s going to stick around,” he said.’

Prior in this interview Sarandos had talked about the Duffer brothers leaving Netflix, essentially with the same goal in mind, cracking theatrical films. Though he assured that Stranger Things itself was not over, which the Duffers and Levy worked on together.

This may or may not indicate that Starfighter won’t be Levy’s only Star Wars film. What that does mean, we wait to see? We know Levy is not directed Star Wars: Episode X, (see related section above). Perhaps then, there is an option to develop a sequel to Starfighter is the movie is a success, or they could have him envisioned for another film in development? In the meantime Levy is making Ghost Rider for Marvel due out in 2028. Once Ghost Rider is done, perhaps Disney has him lined up for another Star Wars project?

What do you think of Levy’s new deal with Disney? It’s hard to judge until we see Starfighter, but I’m not yet fully convinced of Levy’s ability. Star Wars will be his tue test for me. As always, leave your thoughts below.
