The world’s largest hip-hop festival has made the jump to the big screen. Rolling Loud: The Movie premiered in Los Angeles on Tuesday, September 29, with star Owen Wilson among those on hand to celebrate the comedy ahead of its nationwide theatrical release today, Friday, October 2.
Written and directed by Jeremy Garelick, the film pairs Wilson with comedian Matt Rife and drops them into the chaos of a sold-out Rolling Loud weekend. It blends a father-and-son comedy with cameos from some of hip-hop’s biggest names, including Travis Scott, Sexyy Red, Ty Dolla $ign and Ski Mask The Slump God.
A dad, a lie and a festival of strangers
The story follows Hank, a father who can feel his family slipping away. His marriage to Melanie is strained, and his 13-year-old son, Zion, is growing up and pulling away. When Zion begs to go to Rolling Loud, Hank sees one last chance to be the cool dad.
Melanie decides the festival is no place for a 13-year-old, so Hank lies. He tells her the two are spending the weekend at the lake, sneaks Zion into the festival — and promptly loses him.
Unable to call security without exposing his lie, Hank frantically searches through tens of thousands of festivalgoers. He teams up with his reckless old friend Terry and an eccentric security guard named Linda. Every lead brings more chaos: drugs, backstage disasters, a Ferris wheel, a mosh pit, and a run-in with Travis Scott.
When Hank finally finds Zion, his son is safe and having the time of his life. Hank realizes his real struggle isn’t finding his son but accepting that he is growing up. After one unforgettable moment together, father and son race back to the lake house before Melanie discovers the truth.

Billed as inspired by a true story, the film was shot partly on location at Rolling Loud in Miami, with additional production in Atlanta in early 2025.
Alongside Wilson and Rife, the ensemble includes Christine Ko, Henry Winkler, Christian Convery and Jolene, with Sexyy Red, Ski Mask The Slump God, Ty Dolla $ign and Travis Scott bringing the festival’s real-world star power to the screen.
Garelick produced the film with Stella Bulochnikov, Robin Rapino, Will Phelps, Doug Banker and Jolene. Ketchup Entertainment is distributing, with Live Nation Productions among the production companies.
The film marks a new chapter for a brand that started small. Childhood friends and Miami natives Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif founded Rolling Loud in 2015, and now they’re nine-time Billboard Hip-Hop Power Players. It grew out of the South Florida hip-hop community the pair built through years of concert promotion.
At a time when the pop music machine wasn’t taking live hip-hop seriously, Rolling Loud expanded at an unprecedented pace. Within five years, it had moved from Miami to Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Australia. Within ten, it had reached Portugal, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Toronto, Thailand and India.
Billed as the World’s Largest Hip-Hop Festival, Rolling Loud has become a 360-degree lifestyle brand known for authenticity and innovation. With a feature film now in theaters, the festival is carrying that cultural reach to an entirely new audience.
