Neeson Answers When ‘A Monster Calls’

Transient

Screen Daily is reporting that Liam Neeson is boarding the big screen adaptation of A Monster Calls. The spooky fantasy drama will be based on the book by the same name, which was written by Patrick Ness, and will be directed by J. A. Bayona. The novel tells the story of a boy, haunted by the tree that lives outside of his house- as the tree comes to life every night in the form of a monster that tells him scary stories. The unlikely bond that forms between them gives the story a unique twist, as the monster’s dark tales soon become a way of helping the boy cope with some of life’s harsh truths.

Neeson will voice the monster, in a production that also includes the producer of Pan’s LabyrinthThe Impossible (Lo Imposible), and The Orphanage (El Orfonato). Bayona seems to be drawn to these dark coming-of-age tales, similar to Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro even served as an executive producer on The Orphanage. The Spanish director’s star seems to be on the rise, as he’s also been announced as the man who will helm the sequel to Brad Pitt’s World War Z, taking over for Marc Forster.

Aside from Neeson, the only other main cast member announced for A Monster’s Call is Felicity Jones (The Amazing Spider-Man 2). The film is set to come out in time for Halloween in October of 2016.
