With the the success of Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity, comes the announcement that its screenwriter- and Cuaron’s son- has been tapped to write The Lost City. Jonas Cuaron has long been the frontrunner for the gig, but Warner Bros is fast-tracking the project based on the commercial and critical success of Gravity. While plot details are currently under wraps, its said that the film will take place in the mythical underwater kingdom of Atlantis.
Variety reports that production will begin as soon as Cuaron finishes his next directing assignment, Desierto, which stars Gael Garcia Bernal in a Manhunter-style plot set along the Mexican border.
Peter Jackson was once approached to direct The Lost City, which goes to show you how highly WB considers this project. Akiva Goldsman will produce through his Weed Road Pictures shingle, alongside Torry Tunnell and Joby Harold at Safehouse Pictures.
Production on The Lost City is set to begin early next year.
