With the the success of Alfonso Cuaronâ€™sÂ Gravity, comes the announcement that its screenwriter- and Cuaronâ€™s son- has been tapped to writeÂ The Lost City. Jonas Cuaron has long been the frontrunner for the gig, but Warner Bros is fast-tracking the project based on the commercial and critical success ofÂ Gravity. While plot details are currently under wraps, its said that the film will take place in the mythical underwater kingdom of Atlantis.
VarietyÂ reports that production will begin as soon as Cuaron finishes his next directing assignment,Â Desierto, which stars Gael Garcia Bernal in aÂ Manhunter-style plot set along the Mexican border.
Peter Jackson was once approached to directÂ The Lost City, which goes to show you how highly WB considers this project. Akiva Goldsman will produce through his Weed Road Pictures shingle, alongsideÂ Torry Tunnell and Joby Harold at Safehouse Pictures.
Production onÂ The Lost CityÂ is set to begin early next year.
