Speak of the devil. Just a couple hours ago, we reported that Paramount was good and pleased with a draft of the script for the upcoming Bumblebee-centric Transformers movie. This in itself was good news, as it marked a first step towards a Michael Bay-less Transformers franchise, and coming from a Black List writer like Christina Hodson, it was indeed something to get excited about. Now it sounds like Transformers won’t be the only franchise she has her hands on.

A recent report from TheWrap states that Hodson will also hop on over to the DC Extended Universe, tackling the anticipated Harley Quinn/Birds of Prey spinoff.

Say what you will about Suicide Squad as a film, but if there was one thing it actually nailed, it was Harley Quinn. From her quirky and off-kilter personality to her physical interpretation of the psychologist-gone-psychopath. She was strong, crazy, vulnerable, and likable, despite all her flaws. In fact, I felt that way about many of the characters. On the whole, it was the plot of the movie that didn’t hit the mark, and when all said and done, I’d be happy to see a film featuring any of them.

Following the success of that film, actress Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, became more directly involved in the process, and is helping to spearhead this female-led property.

As of right now, there is no official release date for this movie, nor are there any details as to who we can expect in it, or how this will contribute to the overall DCEU, but getting a writer is the first big step to making this work. Of course, we have no real idea how quickly this will pan out, or if will pan out at all, but it’s comforting to know that Hodson is a writer who has already pushed through a successful script for another big franchise. That alone shows her ability to get things done and play ball with the studio to make things work.

Does Hodson joining the project as a writer increase any confidence in the project, or do we need to wait to see her work on Transformers before we can assume too much? Let us know your thoughts down below!
