The Assignment written by Walter Hill, Matz was written well enough to get you to turn the next page to see what happens. There are a lot of independent books out there some are good and some are bad, this one is very good. It starts the reader off with a flash back about a hit man with little back story but it will come later like most stories do. The art work was great I like that it was in color but with the art of Jef it could have been in black and white and still been great. I find that the writer’s got the main character the hitman name from Marvel, because his name is Frank Kitchen (AKA Frank Castle, work a lot in Hell’s Kitchen New York). Like it though nice homage to Marvel and Frank Castle. Again the story pulls the reader in and the ending of the first book you wondering why and who is this person that did this to him. Not giving away any ending here but WOW did not seeing that coming and I want to know what happens next. Also not for anyone under 18 years of age due to the violence, sex, and nudity illustrated in the book. The book is available in five different covers and like most collectors I think WHY! Because you have to pick the one you like most and sometimes the ones you pick are not the ones that go up in value if you plan to collect and sell later. But with all numbers ones as the last few years show they do several covers to get the collector to buy them all.
Khaal written by Stephane Louis and art work by Valentin Secher who also did The Metabaron the art work is much like what you see in Heavy Metal magazine which I like and many do as well. The story is sci fi in the future of sorts, one ship is left after in the galaxy after a war destroys everything and everyone else. The main character is Khaal a human that leads the human race against two other races. The whole story is played out on the universe’s last ship called then Empyreon. The power struggle between three races draws you in because as a reader you want to know why or what caused this to happen. The humans under Khaal control everything that is worth controlling but not without help as you find out. It is a well-planned story line and again the art work great and collaborates like music to the story. Again this book is for those 18 years or older due to the art work and violence in it.
