Sony Pictures introduced an updated sequel to follow up 1995’s Jumanji starring the late Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt.
Additionally, the second film isn’t even a direct sequel, but more of an updated and different take on the concept. It is also retitled as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
At CinemaCon 2017, Sony Picture brought on the stars of the film that included Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan and Jack Black. Johnson indicated there will be a few scenes that will show respect and as an homage towards the original film and Robin Williams.
Kevin Hart joined in the fun through a video, in which the whole cast praised everyone in production except for Hart. And Hart was making pissed off faces that his fellow cast members didn’t mentioned in on stage.

The plot of the story is about four different high school teenagers serving detention. They are led into a basement, in which they must clean the room. During the cleaning, one discovers an Atari-looking game system. The four students each picked a different avatar character to play in the video game. And suddenly the students get transported into a video game inhabiting avatar bodies who are very different from their actual bodies. For example, the ditzy blonde girl transforms into an overweight middle-aged man played by Jack Black.
Now the four survivors must finda way out of the video game, which inhabits a jungle setting. Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses, in which they must work together as a team. To return to the real world, they must return a sacred jewel back to a statue while being pursued by evil ruffians, man-eating hippopotamus and a band of rhinoceros. Their biggest obstacle is that each character only has three lives. And an Indiana Jones-style character played by Nick Jonas is also there to help the group.
Before seeing this, I had no interest into watching Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and would immediately roll my eyes when someone mentions the movie. Now after watching a first look trailer, it seems there will be a lot of action and laughs with this film. Not to mention, Karen Gillan can kick some ass with her video game-like quality kung-fu.
The director is Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher, Sex Tape).
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will make its way on to the big screen on December 22 later this year.
